My first solid homemade book. I figure bookbinding is like murder: the first one is the sloppiest. The book's about 6 x 6 inches.

A shot of the homemade paper I used. This was the first time I made paper, and I was quite pleased.

The pieces before I assembled them.

The stitching was kinda messy, although you don't notice it as much here because these pictures were taken with my camera phone.

That is a wonderfully unique hobby. I have to ask... I've seen it done on craft shows, but I don't know that I'd have the patience... is it as difficult as it looks to make your own paper?

Making the paper was the easiest part. I ordered this frame thingy (it has a real name but I forget), put some paper I liked in the blender (mostly plain and construction paper), dumped it in a bin with some warm water, and used the frame thingy like a sieve to lift out pieces that dried into paper.

Wow, you made the paper too! I did bookbinding in college and haven't done it in years. I kinda choke when it comes to writing in the book because they seem too precious to use. I have a liking for the non-adhesive Chinese bindings because they slap together fast and feel less precious/more usable.

The warm-toned paper really sets of the cool-toned paper and gray pages nicely! It's a subtle color combo and it's so pretty.

I occasionally think of picking bookbinding back up. I have a paper cutter now that I scored when the library upgraded, which would make it easier. It's also easier to buy supplies online. (I did bookbinding pre-internet, '92-ish, where you had to order everything from catalogs with no pictures or buy them from your teachers.)

I have a hard time writing in any journal, especially the ones I make.

The journal pages are actually a really soft purple (you can't see because of the bad photos). All in all the colors were a little too pastel for my liking, but I think they go together well.

I'd love to see anything you make!

Oooh, I like! I did all manner of bookbinding for my degree and I know it isn't easy.

Btw, I'm playing Ares and Callisto on Mythologia (I really wanted to play completely new characters but I choked at letting someone else play Ares because I fail at being an open, giving, fairminded person) and I think you should pick up Hera. You write lovely Hera. :-)

I like everything except the binding part, probably because I suck at it. Punching holes used to be my least favorite part, but then I got an awl for Christmas. Fear my pointy, solid-handled wrath!

Degree in what, if you don't mind my nosiness?

I was surprised to see you picked Callisto. I'm still holding off on Mythologia because I have commitment issues, but I'm very excited.

I have a degree in graphic communications (the joy!). It's very useful...not. ;-)

I picked Callisto because, like Ares, she can go just about anywhere and do just about anything and not look out of place. I also find her a lot easier to write than my next choice (Autolycus, who takes too much effort on the speech front) so I'm happy I got her. And you and your commitment issues -- Caesar is not proud of your shilly-shallying!

LOL. Because Caesar has always been the picture of commitment in his relationships...

And I always think that icon your using should say 'Caesar: Grammar Queen'

It's still weird to see you play a girl. Athena doesn't really count. :-P

Aphrodite's more girly than Callisto :-PP

LOL. Oh, yeah. I knew I'd forgotten one. It's all a haze of drugs and squees.

Girliness aside, though, Aphrodite is a very self-assured, relatively well-rounded goddess. Callisto's an emotional wreck with a mommy-fetish. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with her.

I'm sure whatever it is will be fun!

Btw, I've deleted all but the relevant Roman posts on [info]titanomachy_rpg. This means Caesar has just left Servillia's place to go to Pompey's for dinner. I think I'll still have Pompey drunk and half-naked when Caesar turns up. (His new statue looks cross-eyed and he's a very sensitive soul, you know.) Pompey's house is in chaos because Pompey cancelled dinner. Basically Caesar arrives expecting a well-ordered dinner in which he is the guest of honour and turns up to utter pandemonium and his host declaring himself to be on his deathbed. Is drunk, half-naked and easily taken advantage of Pompey enough for Caesar or do you need Venus too? It's up to you. I'm happy with Pompey drunk and upset and his house in chaos. You can either kick it off yourself or I'll do it tomorrow or Saturday. :-)

Done. Caesar is stalking off to Pompey's bedroom. Woe betide you if Pompey isn't there.

Oh, as for Venus, I'm good either way. I was just going to play it by ear, and various other body parts, but if you get to a point where you think it would be funny/interesting, zap him.

That's pretty cool! I need to find a hobby that doesn't revolve around eating. O_o

I bought a sewing machine not to long ago in the hopes of teaching myself, but after the gigantic fight that was called "threading the bobbin" (which I lost btw), the thing just sits there. Yeah, short attention span...that is me.
